Unit 2: Solving Equation Lessons
L1A: Solving One Step Equations
Equations need to be kept in balance; we need to add or subtract equally from each side.
We will show one opposite operations to solve a one step equation.
Solve is to find the number that makes the two sides equal each other.
L1B: Solving Two Step Equations
Use two opposite steps to solve an equation.
We generally Add or Subtract to isolate the variable term creating a new one step equation.
L2: Solving Multi-Step Equations
We use a variety of math skills to combine like terms before we begin to solve.
We want our variable one one side of the equation and our constant on the other.
If we have variable on both sides of the equation, decide what side has 'more' of the variable.
L3: Solving Fraction Equations
We find the Lowest Common Denominator (LCD) of our fractions.
We multiply the whole equation (all the terms) by the LCD to create a new equation without fractions.
L4: Solving Fraction Equations with Distribution
We need to use the Distributive property when we have a two term numerator. Using ( ) helps us find correct products (multiplication answers).

L5: Isolating Variables
We use the same steps to rearrange Formulas as we use to solve equations: opposite steps in reverse order.

L6: Substitute and Solve
We write our formula and identify the value of the variables. We subsitute for each variable, put the value into ( ). Then simplify and solve.
