In Grade 1, students will need to skip count by 2s to 20, and by 5s and 10 to 100. A hundred chart is a good visual to help students practice.

Students need to have lots of experience adding and subtracting with touchable, concrete objects before moving to pictures (symbolic) and number equations (abstract). Use a variety of counters around your house when adding and subtracting such as cereal, macaroni, chocolate chips, candies, legos, and puzzle pieces.
