Reading

When a children read daily, it leads to reading and writing success in school. They develop their fluency, deeper understanding of text, and hopefully a love of reading. Following are some questions you can ask your child during or after their reading at home:

Thick-(longer response time, may need to reread parts of text)

-What if...?

-Why did...?

-What caused...?

-How would you feel if you...?

-Why do you think....?

-How did...?

-What would happen if...?

-What might...?

-What character traits describe...?

-Why is...?

Thin- (quicker response time)

-When?

-Where?

-Who?

-How Many?

Try This:

-Trying choral reading with your child. Hearing you read will help them with pacing and expression.

-After reading a story ask your son/daughter to act out what they just read! Getting them up and moving helps them understand what they are reading!
