After our June meeting we helped clean up Pahoja. We did things like pick up trash and bundle wood.
We have multiple classes listed here including our semester classes including Small Animal Care, Wildlife, and Natural Resources though short these classes go into depth about the importance of out natural world and how to take care of our more house bound pets. There is also included classes like principles of Ag where you learn the basic morals and duties of an FFA member and Alternative Ag with lots of planting and working with a hydroponics system.
The chapter cleans the ditches annually as a community service project. We have adopted 2 miles of highway north and south of our school.
Each year the FFA holds its September meeting at the Alvord Gun Club. We compete in individual and team trap shoot events, after the regular meeting.
Our test plot is located across from the school. The plant science class uses it to estimate yields and the chapter uses it as a source of income.
Every year, members of the FFA put together a farm safety day event for the 5th graders. The kids learn how to be safe around things like tractors, lawn mowers, animals and much more!
The juniors of the West Lyon FFA annually put on the soup supper. This is to raise money for them to attend WLC. Each member is auctioned off for 8 hours of labor and we also have a live and silent auction. They also put togeher games and activities for kids.
Tractor Day
Every year we try to have an tractor day either in the fall or spring before they are busy with field work. Kids line the tractors up and then after school we have a parade around the school.
The chapter annually sells fruit and a assortment of other things. When the fruit comes in the members help unload it in the morning before school.
In both the classes of Food and Fiber and Animal Science we learn about alternative ways to produce material out of animal by products like lard into bird treats. Animal science had the pleasure to tour a cattle housing facility to get the full experience.
FFA week is filled with the faculty breakfast, official dress day, district officer visits, and help the cooks serve lunch. FFA week is a time for all members to let their blue and gold shine.
The West Lyon FFA puts on its banquet each year in May. At the banquet awards are given out and the new officers are put into office.
