In Islam, caring for orphans is a fundamental practice and a core part of the faith. In Quran, Allah (swt) describes the righteous in Paradise as being those who took care of orphans during their worldly life. And they [the righteous] give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive…’ Al Insan: 8
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) stressed the great blessings and virtues of helping orphans, saying that people who look after orphans will be in Paradise alongside him, putting his index and middle fingers together to symbolize the closeness to him. (Sahih Bukhari 6005 Sunan Abi Dawud 5150)
Furthermore, for Muslims, caring for orphans is a profound social responsibility that is spiritually rewarding and morally fulfilling. The core Islamic values of compassion, community support and a shared sense of collective duty towards the vulnerable, are reflected in the wisdom of caring for orphans.
Afghanistan is one of the countries with the highest number of orphans, a direct consequence of the armed conflict which ravaged the country. Wakil Lawang Orphans and Widows is on the ground supporting this vulnerable population. Please sponsor an orphan or a widow’s family.
