The program will address issues that pre-medical students face and will give practical intervention, as well as insight on ways to aid in combating the issue. This 60-minute interventional program is intended to be a form of academic success workshop, specifically curated for pre-medical students, that addresses issues that this population typically faces: burnout, lack of information or guidance, poor time management and study habits, struggling to find resources, methods or a proper study schedule to prepare for the MCAT, getting involved on campus/community involvement, completing prerequisite courses and other admissions requirements, deciding where to apply, navigating the application process and seeing the significance of life outside of the books. The interventional success workshop will include a panel discussion, comprising of current medical students and medical school graduates from different types of medical schools such as: non-US based international medical school, US based Caribbean medical school, US allopathic medical school and US osteopathic medical school. In the midst of the overwhelming pre-med journey, many students are either left to their own devices, get discouraged by misinformation or they have no influences (i.e., current medical students or graduates) that can mentor them, or at the very least aid in resolving confusion and basic concerns. The interventional program is not intended to remedy all of the problems or questions that pre-medical students might have but to provide insight, guidance, and resources.
By participating in the student success workshop, pre-medical students will be able to recall three effective methods of time management.
As a result of participating in the student success workshop, pre-medical students will be able to create a MCAT study schedule.
After participating in the student success workshop, pre-medical students will be able to identify at least four MCAT preparation tools.
