By participating in the student success workshop, pre-medical students will be able to recall three effective methods of time management.
Explanation: Time management is essential to student success. Aside from discussion based responses during the workshop, there is a time management goals and methods section of the workbook, where they will outline methods of time management that they aim to utilize, that would be used to measure the implementation of these skills.
As a result of participating in the student success workshop, pre-medical students will be able to create a MCAT study schedule.
Explanation: Creating visual representation of tasks and goals aid in productivity, which would be exemplified through the use of the MCAT study calendar. To measure this learning outcome, Attendees would be able to effectively fill out the study schedule template provided in the workbook.
After participating in the student success workshop, pre-medical students will be able to identify at least four MCAT preparation tools.
Explanation: Attendees would be able to identify tools and methods that they plan to implement in their study routine as they prepare to take the MCAT. It is important for students to know what resources are available so that they can access them when it is time to prepare for the rigorous exam.
The interventional program will include direct and indirect evidence of student learning. Attendees will take part in a trivia activity to reinforce the points of discussion and will evaluate their workshop experience by completing the post-attendance survey. Direct evidence assessments are a great way to facilitate and gauge learning through activities and interactions during the interventional program. Program attendees will be encouraged to participate in group discussions and interact with panelists by asking questions, which is an indirect method of collecting evidence of student learning.
Political Concerns:
There are no anticipated direct political concerns associated with the interventional program. Politically associated issues within the medical field or controversial medical school admissions topics will not be discussed so there should be no political issues or concerns.
Ethical Concerns:
Seeing that no confidential, personal or sensitive information is being released about attendees, there are no expected ethical concerns associated with the interventional workshop. The evaluation is within ethical standards; the post-attendance survey does not violate any FERPA or privacy policy regulations and participation is voluntary.
Trivia Activity
Using a code, attendees can participate in the trivia activity on a game based learning platform. The questions will be straightforward and will be based solely on information reviewed in the workshop presentation. The trivia activity will be used to assess and reinforce attendees' knowledge of the skills and information discussed during the interventional workshop.
Implementation Process:
After the powerpoint presentation section of the workshop, before the panel discussion, attendees will participate in a trivia activity. The access code will be displayed on the screen for attendees, they can use any personal electronic device they prefer. Participants will then answer the questions that pop up on the screen. At the end of the trivia activity, there will be an automated leaderboard that displays everyone's overall rankning. It should be noted that it is not mandatory for attendees to use their real names for the activity, if they do, it would be completetly voluntary.
Post-Attendance Survey
The survey will be a Google form that would take about 2-5 minutes for attendees to complete; the post-attendance survey is voluntary but highly recommended. Based on feedback recieved, improvements to the interventional program will be made.
Implementation Process:
A QR code for the post-attendance survey will be available in the workbook (in the physical and digital copy). The day after the interventional program, a link to the post-attendance survey will also be shared with attendees via email.
To evaluate the interventional program, a trivia activity and post-attendance survey will be used. The evaluative tools implemented will be qualitative and used to assess concepts, participant learning, and experiences. After the trivia activity, the results will be saved and reviewed after the workshop to assess participant learning. The post-attendance survey will be used to analyze workshop feedback and improve intervention methods. The analysis of the data provided by the results of the trivia activity and post-attendance survey will be used to make any needed adjustments for future facilitation of this interventional program.
Individuals, particularly pre-medical students, that attend the workshop would benefit from the results of the intervention. The interventional program will address common issues or queries that pre-medical students typically face. Attendees can benefit from having the opportunity to network and interact with each other, the facilitator and panelists. The attendees would also benefit from the results by being able to learn new skills and effective methods of achieving student success as a pre-medical student. The workshop will be an opportunity for attendees to further develop their knowledge about pre-medical student success and put the learned techniques into practice.
