Artist Spotlight: Camila Rios Selected for Governor’s Gallery
Weslaco ISD and Ybarra Elementary are thrilled to announce a prestigious achievement by Art Club member Camila Rios. Camila’s work was chosen by the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) for the 2025-2026 Youth Art Month Exhibition.
Following its showcase at the Bullock Texas State History Museum, Camila’s artwork received the ultimate distinction: it was personally selected by First Lady Cecilia Abbott for the Governor's Gallery. Her art will now be displayed in the Texas State Capitol complex for one year. We congratulate Camila on this historic accomplishment and thank her for being such a stellar representative of our district.
Regional VASE Students 2026 Offer Art Workshops
This year’s Regional VASE competition at Nikki Rowe High School was about more than just interviews—it was a hub of hands-on innovation. Students from across our districts stepped up to lead workshops, keeping energy levels high throughout the day.
A standout highlight was the interactive Postcard Exchange, hosted by the WEHS National Art Honor Society. The booth was a massive hit, providing a creative outlet for students to connect and create while awaiting their jury results.
We owe a huge round of applause to our Regional VASE Director, Carmen Valladares. By organizing these workshops as a registered Big Art Day event, she transformed the competition into a true celebration of artistic community.
