The comprehensive school counseling program guides the direction and planning that assists all students in developing the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the different areas of their lives, educational, career, personal and social development. The Texas Model established four general curriculum areas which are:
Interpersonal Effectiveness
Intrapersonal Effectiveness
Personal Health and Safety
Postsecondary Education and Career Readiness
In the section below, we'll provide an example of how we addressed one of the four areas. In continuation of that, we'll explain how we joined alongside our stakeholders as a united community to ensure that all areas were covered throughout the school year.
Interpersonal Effectiveness: Growth Mindset Curriculum
An extension to counseling lesson on Growth Mindset:
Working with Stakeholders
The total school counseling program is a responsibility shared by many stakeholders. The school counselor collaborates with stakeholders to plan, manage, implement, and evaluate services delivered through the counseling program, including the delivery of the guidance curriculum. To create effective educational systems and productive learning environments, all stake holders need to come together in a meaningful way, through collaboration and connection. Open, transparent dialogue results in all parties feeling seen, heard and valued, and in the end its the connection and compassion formed through those healthy relationships that creates successful teaching and learning outcomes. School counselors advocate with stakeholders, and share data results addressing school counseling program effectiveness. Counselors meet with parents via Open House throughout the school year to ensure that communication is taking place. Social media is used as well to distribute information and keep the parents and families aware of the different events taking place.
