Courage: reaching beyond our comfort zone
With established programs around Asia, The Hutong crafts experiences that promote sustained student engagement with issues of global importance and local significance. Their goal is for the impacts of their programs to last long after your child has returned home, because they believe that learning is a journey without end.
Whether following in the footsteps of World War II soldiers or learning about Hakka heritage on a remote island, interacting with vibrant local culture will allow students to bring the great mosaic of Hong Kong's illustrious past to life, discovering the rich heritage of this amazing city.
There are many opportunities throughout the week for conquering challenges together as a team, as well as chances for students to step up and take more responsibility within a smaller group setting. Our explorations and customized team building activities will help facilitate the development of positive communication and collaboration skills.
Our programme is designed to help students understand and care about the needs of their community and illuminate pathways towards having a meaningful impact. Students will become more deeply aware of global issues in a local context, and come away from their experience as more knowledgeable and responsible global citizens.
On the 4 night residential camp, students will sleep in dormitory accommodation at Breakthrough Youth Village, Shatin. This will be the base from which students participate in a varied range of activities in the New Territories. They will travel to and from the Breakthrough Village to their activities in the New Territories each day.
A snapshot of some of the exciting activities you will participate in during Year 7 Camp...
Year 7 camp is designed to be a progression from Year 6 camp. Not only will students stay away from home for 4 nights where they will live communally with their peers, they will develop their resilience, take risks, and achieve things they never thought possible.
The Hutong's camps are more than just physical exertion; they offer an enriching and educational experience that teaches the students more about the region in which we live and about themselves.
More information will be shared with students and parents nearer the time, but this kit list is shared for reference and to aid you in your planning.
Please note that mobile phones, smartwatches, air tags and all other technology are not appropriate on Year 7 camp.
This camp is the designated choice for Year 7 students. However, if your child cannot take part on the Year 7 camp for any reason, please contact jessica.gilbert@wis.edu.hk
