Feeding HK

Who are they

Every day, 3,400 tonnes of food waste are sent to landfills in Hong Kong, while one million people live in poverty struggling to afford nutritious meals. Feeding Hong Kong bridges this gap by linking food companies and charities to redistribute surplus food from where it is plentiful, to where there is a need. West Island School supports our community partner to collect surplus stock from food companies, sort and store it, and redistribute it to multiple charities across the city and serve a broad and diverse group of people.

What we do

West Island school has long been a supporter and community partner of Feeding HK. We have a very large and enthusiastic group of student leaders who run our Feeding HK Committee. They work alongside the foundation to support and educate our school about the ongoing issues surrounding food in Hong Kong. West Island School are involved in supporting warehouse packing sessions, Bread Runs, Food Drives and most recently, the development of an education programme for students.

Impact

Feeding HK is the sole accredited member of the Global Food Banking Network (GFN) in Hong Kong, an international organisation dedicated to creating and strengthening food banks around the world. This makes us a part of a global movement working to feed people and not landfills.
