guidelines for using Artificial intelligence

A.I. is changing every day, and our opinions about how to best deal with it are also continuing to develop.

Like any other tool, there are helpful and effective ways to use it AND there are negative ways to use it. If you let ChatGPT do the thinking for you, you aren't learning. Plus, you're likely plagiarizing. See the Academic Honesty policy in the student handbook for more details.

There are ethical issues with using this tool (as most do not credit sources and "scrape" data from sources without consent), and lots of us are grappling with the best ways to approach using ChatGPT and other A.I.

As a school, we haven't blocked websites like ChatGPT because we want to help you learn how to use them appropriately. See the infographic to the left. Ms. Marshall loves to talk about it too and she'd love to hear your thoughts!

All students are welcome to visit the Winthrop High School Library during tutorials or before/after school, and teachers are encouraged to schedule visits for their classes, clubs, and/or other groups. Promotions and challenges in the Winthrop High School library motivate students to read new books or complete puzzles. Scavenger hunts and interactive displays encourage student curiosity and imagination.

We invite all students to use the space to find the help they might need to be successful in school and beyond. The library provides a comfortable environment for active collaboration or quiet studying. Students can play a game of chess, catch up on the local and national news stories, grab a great next read, or study for that upcoming test or quiz. We are here to help!
