Solution

Our Solution

Our solution will help the students at Windward School keep better track of their one cards because many students lose their cards or have trouble accessing them when they need to quickly use it for forms for payment. Our product will be attached to the backpack of each student. We will have a retractable wire hooked onto the strap of the backpack which attaches to the one card. Then the card will have a clear sleeve around it and then it will hook onto the strap with magnets. This product will ensure the one card is with you at all times throughout the day and it will be within easy reach when using the card. It is not uncommon for students to lose wallets in general (because of developing executive functioning skills, stress, and other reasons), which in a school setting translates to losing school ID and payment cards (at Windward, this the one card). The proposed solution will minimize the chance of losing a one card or credit card, and will make accessing the card much easier.  With improved access, students will be able to more quickly and easily pay for their school lunches, without having to stop in the lunch line and put down their school bags to look inside of them, without having to turn on their phones to find photos of their cards, and without having to ask the person working the cash register to search and type in their names for alternative forms of payment. These access improvements to the card at lunch time will have significant positive impact on the people working at lunch, the other people waiting in line, and the person trying to locate their card, who is also holding their food and trying to pay. The solution to lost cards for students and improved access to using student cards is simple and convenient. The Card Guard can be attached it to almost anything, and need not be limited to a backpack strap.

Our Data

Data

Our data shows that  90% of students at our school would use our product and that it would be a useful design for our barrier. By having this information, we know that our prototype could be effective.
