Our Process

Learn all about the steps and processes we took throughout this project!

The Issue

Our first step was to find an issue. As a class, we gathered to disccus possible issues that fall under the umbrella of accessibility. This discussion was extremely important, and gave us lots of ideas for potential topics to focus on.

Research and Define

Once we got into groups, we talked about all the things we had talked about. We landed on the topic of senior care and people with disabilities, and eventually loneliness in seniors and people with disabilities. We researched the topic, exisiting soltuions, and potential clients that could use the help of our solution. This step was crucial because it gave us helpful information that we could use when brainstorming ideas for our invention.

Ideate

We brainstormed lots of ideas as a group, and covered a whole poster sheet with sticky notes. Eventually, we settled on our favorite idea. This was an important stage, because it gave us the opportunity to ensure that we were pursuing the best idea.

We then got feedback from faculty members that we would use to implement in the final version of the app. Initially, there were many flaws with our initial idea, but after meeting with some faculty members, our prototype significantly improved.

Test, Itereate, Implement

After making changes to our initial idea, we met as a group and started designing the initial app using a website builder. We created a blog page, a chat group, and eventually figured out a way to sort the responses to our form and create pairings. We also collected data from our client, and continuously edited our prototype until it became something we liked. Testing is such a significant part of any project, and it allowed us the ability to go through trial and error.

Launch

It was time to fully implement our product! Our product had reached a functional stage, where it matched seniors together after only filling out a couple of questions. As a group, we visited our client, Ciela, in person, and used our app with the residents. We collected data and paired together a couple people! We launched our app succesfully. This is so important because we were finally able to share our product with the people who needed it the most.

Finally, we presented our app to all the distinguished guests at the CBL Community Forum on our campus. This opportunity was extremely important and valuable to us as a group because we got the opportunity to showcase all of our hard work with faculty and family members.
