Having a certified library media specialist has some hidden perks. One of those is that it provides the school with access to over 50 research databases for free. (Some databases cost $5,000 or more per year.) Databases are absolutely the best place to go when you are doing academic research. Take advantage of them.

The MLS collection includes databases from Gale, ProQuest, and Britannica. It includes Boston Globe archives, and Peterson's test and career prep collections. You can access databases from anywhere. *

The World Factbook or CIA World Factbook provides basic intelligence on the history, people, government, economy, energy, geography, environment, communications, transportation, military, terrorism, and transnational issues for 266 world entities. This is a premiere free source for anyone researching countries.
The Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) provides information on what workers do; the work environment; education, training, and other qualifications; pay; the job outlook; information on state and area data; similar occupations; and sources of additional information for more than 300 occupational profiles covering about 4 out of 5 jobs in the economy.
