At Wincham Community Primary School, we believe that feeling safe, happy, and knowing you belong are the foundations for all great learning. That's why the 'No Outsiders' ethos is such an essential and powerful part of our teaching and is embedded in our personal development curriculum, which Ofsted recognised as being so strong.
The core message of 'No Outsiders' is simple yet profound: Everyone is welcome at Wincham, and everyone belongs here.
What is 'No Outsiders'?
This program is a crucial part of how we teach our children to be inclusive, welcoming, and confident citizens. It uses a fantastic resource of 42 age-appropriate picture books to lead thoughtful class discussions. These aren't obscure books; they are classics you may already have at home! Authors like Michael Rosen, Nick Sharratt, and Sue Heap are included, alongside beloved characters like Elmer the Elephant. Each year group, from Reception to Year 6, explores a set of six books and accompanying lessons throughout the year.
Focussing on Belonging and Difference
For our youngest children, the message is immediate and impactful. Every four-year-old knows what it feels like to be left out, and 'No Outsiders' gives them the powerful, positive message: "We play together here. No one is left out, no one is an outsider."
As children move through the school, our discussions grow more complex. We focus on celebrating difference as a positive thing, not a negative one. We talk about the many ways people are different and, crucially, how our words and actions can ensure that everyone in our school knows they belong. This work is vital—it directly prepares our children for life in modern Britain and as thoughtful global citizens, teaching them empathy and respect for all.
We are so proud to be a school where every child is known, cared for, and taught that they have a right to be exactly who they are.
If you would like to know more about the books we use, or the discussions your child is having in class, please feel free to pop in for a chat.
Please take a moment to look at how the idea of No Outsiders was explained to the children in assembly this week.
The safety and well-being of every child at Wincham is at the very heart of everything we do. We are committed to making sure your children are known, cared for, and supported throughout the school day.
As part of our continuous commitment to the best possible care, we have reviewed how we communicate with you when your child sustains a minor head bump. We are changing from the old paper note system to a more reliable, effective, and modern approach.
Our First Priority: The Child
Please be assured that our immediate care procedures remain the same:
Immediate Care: A trained member of staff (our first aiders) will assess and treat your child straight away in our First Aid Room.
Urgent Calls: If the injury is serious or requires urgent medical attention, we will immediately telephone home using all emergency contacts until we speak with you.
A More Reliable Way to Tell You
For minor bumps that require monitoring (where a telephone call isn't necessary), we are retiring the old red paper note. We know these notes can sometimes go astray in book bags!
From now on, the school office team will email both parents/carers for whom we hold an address. This is a much more reliable method, as it means:
Prompt Notification: You receive the information quickly, directly to your inbox.
Both Parents Informed: We can notify both primary contacts at the same time.
Clear Record: We maintain a secure, auditable record of the communication.
Introducing the Head Bump Sticker
To make sure that all supervising adults and anyone collecting your child is aware of the bump, we are also introducing a simple visual alert.
If your child is treated for a head bump, they will be given a distinctive Head Bump sticker to wear for the rest of the day.
This sticker is vital because it immediately alerts:
School Staff: All staff, even if they were not involved in the incident (e.g., in a different lesson or at after-school club).
Collection Adults: Grandparents, childminders, or other authorised adults collecting your child who may not have seen the email notification sent to parents will see the sticker and know to ask about the bump.
This small, simple addition ensures that the commitment to monitoring and caring for your child extends right until they are safely back in your hands.
We believe these changes ensure the very best communication and care for your wonderful children. If you have any questions, please do get in touch with the school office. If you are concerned about checking the correct email addresses are on file, please email admin@winchamcp.cheshire.sch.uk
What a joyous and enriching experience our Key Stage 1 classes had this week! Our children truly became little time travellers as they journeyed to Warrington Museum & Art Gallery to explore how children played in the past .
The visit was a huge success, perfectly linking to our history curriculum and helping the children understand what life was like for their grandparents and great-grandparents.
The children had the chance to handle and play with authentic toys from over a hundred years ago. They quickly discovered that even without batteries or screens, playing with simple wooden trains and rag dolls could be full of fun and imagination!
These experiences are so vital in helping our children's personal development—they nurture curiosity, empathy, and a deep understanding of the wider world. We were exceptionally proud of the excellent behaviour and inquisitive attitudes displayed by every single child, with museum staff commenting on their enthusiasm.
Mad Science visited us today for a Mad Science Assembly! We are now offering a Mad Science After School Club on a Friday from 7th November. The deadline for registrations is Friday 10th October. We are thrilled to announce that the spectacular annual Wincham Halloween Disco is just around the corner! Get ready for an evening of spooky fun, fantastic dancing, and community spirit, all organised by our wonderful Wincham Family & Friends PTA.
When? Friday, 24th October Time? 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Where? The Community Centre
This is one of the biggest social events of the school calendar, and it’s a brilliant opportunity for the children (and grown-ups!) to come together for a great night out.
How You Can Support the Fun!
To help make the stalls a great success, we are holding a special fundraising event:
Tombola Non-Uniform Day:
Date: Thursday, 16th October 2025
What to do: Children can come to school in their own clothes in exchange for a donation to the Tombola.
Donations Needed: Please bring in an item for the Tombola stall (e.g., Halloween themed sweets, chocolates, cakes, decorations etc.) Please note: This is a normal non-uniform day, not a Halloween dress-up day.
Here’s a taste of what’s in store at the disco:
Disco & Party Games: Get your dancing shoes on and show off your best spooky moves!
Terrifying Treats: Hot dogs and delicious baked potatoes with your choice of chilli or beans.
The Spooky Stalls: Try your luck at the Tombola, get a gruesome makeover at the Spooky Face Painting station, play fun Halloween Games, and dive into the Lucky Dip. Don't forget to Guess the Sweets in a Jar!
For the Grown-Ups: Our PTA will be running a Licensed Bar and Mocktail Bar for parents and carers to enjoy a catch-up.
Why is this important? Every penny raised from the disco goes directly back into the school to fund resources, equipment, and enrichment activities that benefit all our pupils. By attending, you are supporting our commitment to making Wincham a vibrant and well-resourced learning environment for every child.
Get ready for a spooktacular afternoon because the Treetops After School Club Halloween Party is here! Due to popular demand (our official naming party sold out incredibly fast!), we are opening bookings for our Halloween extravaganza on Wednesday, 22nd October 2025. Please note, this is a separate event to the WFF event on Friday 14/10/25.
The children are in for an afternoon packed with fun and games, delicious spooky food and treats, and a fantastic festive atmosphere. We have limited places available, and we expect them to be snapped up quickly, so please book soon to avoid disappointment!
A Quick Note on Costumes:
As the children will be coming straight to Treetops directly after the school day, we kindly ask that they do not wear full costumes to school. Instead, they are welcome to bring one or two small, fun, Halloween-themed items to pop on for the party, such as a witch's hat, a themed jumper, or some spooky accessories. We won't be able to help apply face paints! This keeps things safe and sensible during the school day.
How to Book:
Book your child's place online now at: https://wincham.hivelink.co.uk/ Please remember, usual Treetops session prices apply.
Don't miss out on what promises to be a wonderfully spooky and exciting afternoon!
As the leaves turn golden and the air grows crisp, we are delighted to invite you to our annual Harvest Assembly! This is a cherished occasion where we come together as a school community to celebrate the bounty of the harvest and reflect on the importance of gratitude and sharing.
Our pupils are working hard to prepare songs, poems, and readings that capture the spirit of autumn and thanks. It's always a wonderfully heartwarming event, and we would be thrilled for you to join us.
Date: Friday, 10th October Time: 9:15 AM
We look forward to welcoming you for a morning of celebration and community spirit.
We will be collecting for the local foodbank throughout the week, please send any donations in with the children.

Many families are struggling with rising energy bills, and some risk fuel poverty. Citizens Advice Cheshire West, funded by CWaC’s Household Support Fund, runs a Heating bank to provide emergency help with heating costs.
The Heating Bank is designed for families and individuals who may be struggling to keep their homes warm this winter. By offering temporary relief with heating costs, the service aims to reduce the health risks, stress, and hardship caused by cold homes.
Last year, we supported around 1,000 households with an average of £233 each towards energy bills. The service is free, confidential, and offers quick assistance to households on benefits who are struggling to stay warm.
How to access the Heating Bank:
Families can apply directly https://www.citizensadvicecw.org.uk/heatingbank/
Support is available to households who are in receipt of benefits and struggling to meet their energy costs.
The service is free, confidential, and designed to provide quick assistance.
By working together, we hope to make sure no family has to choose between heating and other essentials.
The Live Well Newsletter will be published bi-monthly to provide you with latest updates and information. It is also your opportunity to get involved, have your say and improve our Live Well/Local Offer Cheshire West Website.
