This week, our focus on well-being and positive relationships was reinforced during a special whole-school assembly dedicated to our HeartSmart Toolkit.
HeartSmart is a core part of our Personal Development and Relationships & Health Education curriculum, helping children understand how to build healthy friendships and manage their emotions. The assembly was a brilliant way to bring all the classroom learning together under the theme of 'Get HeartSmart'.
We focused on the importance of making good choices and practising key qualities like kindness, respect, and consideration every day. The children were encouraged to think about how they can use their 'smart-heart' to look out for others, be supportive members of the Wincham community, and solve problems with empathy.
This work directly underpins the nurturing and inclusive atmosphere we pride ourselves on at Wincham, ensuring every child feels known, safe, and happy. It also aligns with our focus on Global Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being.
If you'd like to reinforce this at home, please chat with your child about the 'HeartSmart' principles—they'll be delighted to tell you what they've learned! More details about our curriculum ethos and well-being support are available on the school website.
We are delighted to announce that Wincham Primary School has once again achieved the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2024/25 academic year.
The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.
As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.
We look forward to applying once again in 2026!
What a fantastic atmosphere at our 'Stay & Do' Reading for Pleasure event this week! We are thrilled that a record 103 parents and carers joined us in school to share books with their children.
It was a joy to see so many of you taking time out to share a story. These moments are precious and vital in helping your child develop a lifelong love of reading. Your fantastic turnout is a wonderful testament to the strong partnership between home and school.
Thank you again for your support! If you missed it, please keep an eye out for details of our next event!

We are thrilled to announce that the spectacular annual Wincham Halloween Disco is just around the corner! Get ready for an evening of spooky fun, fantastic dancing, and community spirit, all organised by our wonderful Wincham Family & Friends PTA.
When? Friday, 24th October Time? 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Where? The Community Centre
This is one of the biggest social events of the school calendar, and it’s a brilliant opportunity for the children (and grown-ups!) to come together for a great night out.
How You Can Support the Fun!
To help make the stalls a great success, we are holding a special fundraising event:
Tombola Non-Uniform Day:
Date: Thursday, 16th October 2025
What to do: Children can come to school in their own clothes in exchange for a donation to the Tombola.
Donations Needed: Please bring in an item for the Tombola stall (e.g., Halloween themed sweets, chocolates, cakes, decorations etc.) Please note: This is a normal non-uniform day, not a Halloween dress-up day.
Here’s a taste of what’s in store at the disco:
Disco & Party Games: Get your dancing shoes on and show off your best spooky moves!
Terrifying Treats: Hot dogs and delicious baked potatoes with your choice of chilli or beans.
The Spooky Stalls: Try your luck at the Tombola, get a gruesome makeover at the Spooky Face Painting station, play fun Halloween Games, and dive into the Lucky Dip. Don't forget to Guess the Sweets in a Jar!
For the Grown-Ups: Our PTA will be running a Licensed Bar and Mocktail Bar for parents and carers to enjoy a catch-up.
Why is this important? Every penny raised from the disco goes directly back into the school to fund resources, equipment, and enrichment activities that benefit all our pupils. By attending, you are supporting our commitment to making Wincham a vibrant and well-resourced learning environment for every child.
Get ready for a spooktacular afternoon because the Treetops After School Club Halloween Party is here! Due to popular demand (our official naming party sold out incredibly fast!), we are opening bookings for our Halloween extravaganza on Wednesday, 22nd October 2025. Please note, this is a separate event to the WFF event on Friday 14/10/25.
The children are in for an afternoon packed with fun and games, delicious spooky food and treats, and a fantastic festive atmosphere. We have limited places available, and we expect them to be snapped up quickly, so please book soon to avoid disappointment!
A Quick Note on Costumes:
As the children will be coming straight to Treetops directly after the school day, we kindly ask that they do not wear full costumes to school. Instead, they are welcome to bring one or two small, fun, Halloween-themed items to pop on for the party, such as a witch's hat, a themed jumper, or some spooky accessories. We won't be able to help apply face paints! This keeps things safe and sensible during the school day.
How to Book:
Book your child's place online now at: https://wincham.hivelink.co.uk/ Please remember, usual Treetops session prices apply.
Don't miss out on what promises to be a wonderfully spooky and exciting afternoon!
Following a busy and productive start to the academic year, I wanted to share an insight into the work of our Governing Board, which plays a crucial strategic role in ensuring Wincham Community Primary School continues to provide a high-quality education for your children.
The Governing Board is, essentially, the school's critical friend. They hold the senior leaders, including myself, to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the effective and efficient spending of the school’s budget. They do not get involved in the day-to-day running of the school (that’s the role of the Headteacher and staff), but rather focus on the long-term vision.
We held our first full Governing Board meeting of the year this week, covering a comprehensive agenda that demonstrates their vital work. Key discussions and areas of focus included:
Academic Attainment and Progress: Governors thoroughly analysed performance data, reviewing how well children across all year groups are progressing. They challenged us on strategies to ensure every child is reaching their full potential.
Finance and Resources: The board scrutinised the school's budget to ensure resources are managed efficiently and deployed to best support the children's learning, from staffing to educational materials.
The School Improvement Plan (SIP): We reviewed the progress against our strategic plan for the year, ensuring we are on track to meet our ambitious goals and further build on our current 'Good' Ofsted rating.
Safeguarding and SEND: A significant part of the meeting was dedicated to ensuring our robust safeguarding procedures are fully effective and that our provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is tailored, inclusive, and highly supportive.
Stakeholder Engagement: Discussion also focused on how we can continue to strengthen our relationship with parents, the wider Wincham community, and external partners to enrich the life of the school.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all our Governors for their time, expertise, and commitment. Their dedication is fundamental to our school’s success and our shared goal of ensuring all our pupils are happy, capable, and responsible young people who love learning.
As a community school, we value transparency and engagement. You can find more information about our Governing Board and their responsibilities on the school website.
We currently have 2 vacancies for parent governors. You will receive more information about this next week in a separate email, but please speak to me if you have questions, or leave an enquiry with the staff in the School Office, and a member of the governing board will be in touch.
As the leaves turn golden and the air grows crisp, we are delighted to invite you to our annual Harvest Assembly! This is a cherished occasion where we come together as a school community to celebrate the bounty of the harvest and reflect on the importance of gratitude and sharing.
Our pupils are working hard to prepare songs, poems, and readings that capture the spirit of autumn and thanks. It's always a wonderfully heartwarming event, and we would be thrilled for you to join us.
Date: Friday, 10th October Time: 9:15 AM
We look forward to welcoming you for a morning of celebration and community spirit.
We will be collecting for the local foodbank throughout the week, please send any donations in with the children.
What a brilliant start to the year! I want to take a moment to say a huge thank you to all our families for prioritising getting your children into school every single day.
Our whole-school attendance figure for the start of term is an outstanding 96.9%!
This is truly fantastic and sits well above the national primary school average (2024-2025) of 94.8%.
School data - year on year comparison
Our attendance is also improving on this time last year. This superb commitment to attendance means our children are consistently in class, building their knowledge, deepening their friendships, and benefiting from all the wonderful learning and personal development we offer at Wincham.
Please keep up this magnificent effort—every day in school makes a massive difference! ⭐️
We are really excited to share more of our school life with you and the wider community. You can find us on:

With over 900 million monthly users, Snapchat continues to be a favourite among children and young people; however, with its ever-evolving features, the risks have evolved too. From AI-generated filters and chatbots, to disappearing messages and the Snap Map location-sharing tool, it’s easy for children to stumble into unsafe territory. This guide breaks down the latest updates, including the Lens+ subscription service, and web browser access.
We’ve also unpacked the risks of sextortion scams, overuse, and inappropriate content that may slip through the app’s moderation systems. With expert advice from online safety consultant Dr Claire Sutherland, this guide is a must-read for anyone helping young people navigate Snapchat responsibly and confidently.
