Below is a recording of the presentation from the briefing meeting on September 2024.
Q1. My child is currently a scout but will be over 14 when the trip happens. Can they sign up?
A1. Yes - providing they plan to join an explorer unit or become a young leader when they turn 14 they can sign up for the trip
Q2. Can over 18s come on the trip? Are you looking for more leaders?
A2. Unfortunately this trip is for explorers only and we aren't looking for any additional leaders right now. There is already a well established Scout leader and Network trip organised by group of leaders from Salisbury. If you are over 18 and are interested in a ski trip you can check out their website.
Q3. Will there be a chance for the participants to meet up before the trip?
A3. Yes - we plan to hold a training day later in the year so participants can meet the leader team and get to know each other and start preparing for the trip. We are also looking to coordinate a trip to a snowdome for people who might want to do some lessons before they go but please be aware this will be an additional cost.
Q4. Can we fundraise for the trip?
A4. Yes - Participants can organise their own fundraising activities for the trip and we will do our best to support you but we do not plan to organise any central fundraising activities. If you are looking for other participants to get involved with a fundraising event we can send out information, and if we see fundraising activities where you can get involved we will pass them on.
Q5. Can we bring our own ski or snowboard gear?
A5. If you own your own boots and helmet then you can bring them on the trip. There is limited space on the coach so explorers will not be able to bring their own skis and snowboard unless there is a good reason (e.g. specific equipment due to a medical condition).
Q6. How many places are available
A6. We have a provisional booking for 36, so when we take out the leaders there are 30 places available for explorers. When I spoke to the tour providing they said that the accommodation can actually hold more people so if we have a larger sign up then we can get in touch and potentially increase the group size.
Q7. Can we do skiing and snowboarding?
A7. Unfortunately you have to pick one or the other for the trip. If you want to try them out before you go then you can do some beginner sessions at snowdome or artificial slope.
