Fike Color Guard
The term “color guard” originates from the era of military marching bands, where members were responsible for presenting and protecting the American and military flags—referred to as the “colors.” Today, color guard members are performers who add visual impact, motion, and color to the marching band performance.
Modern color guard combines equipment choreography—including flags, rifles, and sabres—with dance, movement, and marching. Through these elements, the guard enhances the musical performance of the marching band and helps bring the show’s visual story to life.
Auditions for the Fike Color Guard are held during the spring semester and are open to all students at Fike High School. Audition requirements vary each year but typically include a combination of flag routines, movement exercises, and marching fundamentals. Both incoming and current students at Fike High School are eligible to audition.
Color guard participants are full members of the Fike Marching Demons and are expected to participate in all marching band activities. Members must attend rehearsals and performances, assist with fundraising, and comply with all rules and regulations established by the band program and the school.
