Checkpoints and Assessments
In 4th grade, students will take both Checkpoints and Assessments.
Each Unit of Math has an Assessment.
Each Unit has one or two Checkpoints.
You may think of Assessments and Checkpoints similarly to Tests and Quizzes. Assessments occur at the very end of the unit and are longer in length, and checkpoints are shorter in length and occur within the unit.
I will always tell students when there is a Checkpoint or Assessment coming up.
I will always tell students the date of the Checkpoint or Assessment.
As a class, we will always do in class review work to give students an opportunity to practice and ask for support.
After a Checkpoint or Assessment, I will need a day or two to grade. I will give students back their assessment to take home.
Homework
Fourth graders will have math homework this school year.
Fourth graders will have homework that closely aligns with the specific skills taught that day in class.
I will give students review homework before a Checkpoint or Assessment. This is homework I have created. These homework assignments will have very similar questions to the checkpoint or assessment.
Extra Practice At Home
There are many different ways that you can support your child with math at home.
Your child may need a parent to check that they are completing their homework each night
Your child may need a parents help with some math problems on their homework
If you are looking to practice at home before a checkpoint or assessment, your child will be bringing home a packet of practice problems from class. You may work on some problems that they did not finish, or create similar problems at home.
