Nature-based occupational therapy is a wonderful opportunity to work on your child's goals in an outdoor setting. Being in nature is inherently therapeutic. Play is a huge part of occupational therapy and nature provides a natural play space. During nature-based OT, we can work on gross motor, fine motor, coordination, balance as well as psychosocial aspects of your child's treatment. Sessions will be individualized to your child's needs.
At the beginning of the visit, we always "check-in" and see how your family has been including any progress, challenges or medical updates since your last visit.
During the majority of the visit, we will do various therapeutic activities. We may have your child balance on logs, swing at a playground, make letters out of sticks or other fun activities. During this time we also provide education regarding your child's development and progress, why the activities are therapeutic and what you can do at home until we see you next.
Finally, at the end of the visit, we will review activity suggestions, complete your note and share it to your patient portal so you can reference the home program/suggestions that were given during therapy--no need to write it down!
