SERVICE ACADEMY INTERVIEW PREP Information 

SERVICE ACADEMY INFORMATION The honor of attending a service academy comes with the obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation. Members of Congress may nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies: U.S. Military Academy (USMA), West Point, NY; the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis, MD; the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), Colorado Springs, CO; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Kings Point, NY. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), New London, CT, does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.

Information for what is required to apply can be found on the Congressman's website at jacobs.house.gov/services or by calling one of the district offices. Prospective applicants should request to speak with, Michael Hicks, the Congressman's Service Academy Coordinator.  

United States Merchant Marine Academy: Learn about exciting careers at sea on December 5th.  See this flyer.  Graduates of the USMMA earn a Bachelor of Science degree, a U.S. Coast Guard license, and a commission in the U.S. armed forces. Our graduates have the option to work as a ship’s officer in the U.S. maritime industry or serve as commissioned officers on active duty in any branch of service. Students receive full tuition, room and board, and books at no cost.

OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE AT NIAGARA UNIVERSITY AND THE ARMY ROTC PROGRAM Students can participate in the Army ROTC program for up to two years with no commitment. High School Seniors can begin the Army ROTC Scholarship application now for consideration for 3YR and 4YR Army ROTC Scholarships. Students should have at least a 3.0 GPA and 1100 SAT to be competitive for the Army ROTC Scholarship. Niagara University kindly provides a complimentary Room and Board stipend for the duration of the Army ROTC scholarship. High School Juniors can begin the Army ROTC Scholarship process on 12 JUN 2023. Students can begin the Army ROTC Scholarship application by visiting: Applications & Information.

The Purple Eagle Army ROTC Battalion offers an Overnight Visit Program for prospective High School Juniors and Seniors. The students will be partnered with a Cadet Sponsor, attend classes and Military Science class and Lab. Meals and lodging during the visit are complimentary. Transportation is at the expense of the prospective student.   NU has several upcoming Open Houses for prospective students and their families to explore the "Power of Niagara!"

SENIOR BOYS: If you are 18 years old: federal law says; "all men living in the U.S. must register with Selective Service within a month of their 18th birthday". Registering will allow you to be eligible for college loans, job training, government jobs and driver's license renewal in most states. Register online at www.sss.gov.
