Duck Life Cycle
Ducks are waterfowl. They go through a metamorphosis like frogs, butterflies and chickens. Ducks have 5 basic stages: Egg, hatchling, duckling, juvenile, and adult.
The Mallard Duck
Egg
A duck egg will incubate for for 28 days. But it may as long as 35 days for some types of ducks.
Hatchling
The hatchling is what the duck is called when it emerges from the egg.
Duckling and Juvenile
A baby duck is called a duckling and will become a juvenile at age 2 months. Juvenuiles often look like the adults.
Female and Male Adult
Ducks become adults around the age of 2. Then they go on to raise duckling of their own.
