The Butterflies life cycle has 4 basic stages: The Adult, The Egg, The Pupa (sometimes called the Chrysalis), and the Larva (usually called the caterpillar).

The egg is laid by the female butterfly on a plant. When the egg hatches and becomes a larva, the plant then become food for it.

The caterpillar has a HUGE appetitie. It immediately starts eating the host plant. It goes on to shed its skin as it grows.

The hard exterior protects the caterpillar as it grows and changes into a butterfly. This change is called metamorphosis.

After hatching, the butterfly's wings are wet and wrinkled. They sit and wait for the wings to dry and straighten out so they fly off to find pollen to eat.
