Welcome to Our STEM Engineering Unit: Building Strong Bridges
Golden Gate Bridge
In this unit, students will explore what makes bridges strong, stable, and safe. Through hands-on investigations, students will design, construct, and test different types of model bridges using materials such as popsicle sticks, paper, spaghetti, marshmallows, straws, and more!
Throughout the unit, students will practice the skills of inquiry-based learning: asking meaningful questions, testing variables, collecting data, and using evidence to improve their designs.
By the end of the unit, students will use their learning to design a final bridge that meets specific criteria and constraints. The criteria might be how much weight the bridge can hold or the distance the bridge can span.
