I received my BA in History from Florida State University and my MEd in Educational Administration from Georgia College & State University. I was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia, but was living in metro Atlanta since 2001 where I worked in Henry County Schools, Gwinnett County Schools and as Assistant Principal for the Archdiocese of Atlanta Schools. I moved to Michigan to be with my husband, whom I married in 2017 when he was a doctoral student at the University of Michigan. I love being here at WIHI because this community allowed me to be myself for the first time in my career. They, my colleagues, students and parents all embraced me and my husband as part of the WIHI famunity (family/community), showing me the most professional acceptance I have ever had. Outside of WIHI, I love to spend time with my husband and our three cats (Beren, Luthien and Floie), working in the yard, travelling when time permits, baking and reading/learning anything about history, religion or politics.

I received my Bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science from the University of Michigan in 2020 and my Master’s degree in Secondary education with a focus in Social Studies in 2021. I did my student teaching training at WIHI and am thrilled to begin my full time teaching journey back at WIHI. I have experience teaching and pre service student teaching in Economics, American Government, World History, Geography, American History and Global Politics at Saline High School, Tappan Middle school and WIHI. Before teaching, I was a history and political science research assistant as well as a camp counselor in both writing and art camps. I am excited to work at WIHI because of our focus on Social Justice, amplifying student voice and educating students as whole people. I am from Oakland county but now live in Ann Arbor. When not teaching, I spend time reading, cooking with my partner, Eli, and befriending as many animals as possible.

I earned a full Merit Scholarship to Wayne State University, where I achieved my Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education, with a major in mathematics. I returned to Wayne State to earn my Masters in Education in curriculum, when I began teaching in Ypsilanti in 1995. My past teaching experiences have been in grades 3-8 in Ypsilanti. I began in Willow Run Community Schools, and continued when it merged with Ypsilanti Community Schools; and stayed with WIMA when WEOC took leadership over the school.
I educate my students by creating a student-centered, inquiry based learning environment; and by facilitating a class culture that is conducive to learning for all. I thoroughly believe in holistically preparing our students for the global society in which we live. My daughter is the light of my life. We reside in Taylor and enjoy spending our time with family and friends.

I’m a Detroit native, but I have been a part of the Ypsilanti community for close to a decade. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education from Eastern Michigan University. Teaching has always been a passion of mine and speaking from personal experiences, I believe it has the power to change lives. While attending school is a journey in itself, I aim to prepare students for the journey beyond school walls after graduation. When I’m not teaching Social Studies, I’m either cooking vegan foods or watching anime. I am also a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated.

I’m a graduate of Huntington University with a B.S. in Social Studies Secondary Education and minors in teaching theater, radio, television, and speech. In 2010, I received my M.Ed. from Indiana Wesleyan University. I started teaching high school in Chicago in 2004, and since then, I have taught grades 5-12 on three different continents. My wife and I started overseas teaching at Khartoum American School in Sudan, and we later moved to Russia where we taught at the Anglo American School of Moscow. In that time we had the amazing opportunity to visit over 30 countries, and these experiences reshaped our outlook on the world.
The mission of WIHI to approach learning from a truly international perspective inspires me, and I am so glad to be working at this school. Since joining the school in 2013, I have been so blessed to work with such amazing students and faculty. They have also indulged me with allowing me to pursue all sorts of interests from sustainability and gardening to teaching Theatre.
