Final Logs Due: Friday Week 10 Term 3
Form developed personal responses involves demonstrating understanding of, engagement with, and/or expressing viewpoints on texts. It also includes responding to links between:
text and self, such as personal contexts and prior knowledge
text and world, such as connections with knowledge, experience, ideas and imagination from social, cultural, literary, political, or historical contexts.
Form developed, convincing personal responses involves demonstrating significant understandings and expressing viewpoints that are reasoned, clear, and relevant.
Form developed, perceptive personal responses involves demonstrating understandings and expressing viewpoints that are insightful and/or original.
Supported by evidence refers to the use of specific and relevant details from the text to support analysis.
At least six texts must be included. At least four written texts must be included, two of which must be extended texts. The remaining two texts may be visual, oral, or written texts.
THE OVERALL PROCESS
You will complete 6 personal responses to 6 different texts, by different authors / directors. You will present each reading log in a different mode - visual, written, audio, poster etc… info to come.
Here are the text choice requirements to meet the standard:
At least two full length written texts (novels, biographies etc…)
At least four written texts in total
You can also use two AUDIO or two VISUAL texts - or one of each
A total of six responses altogether
Each of your texts must be at Level 7 of the curriculum. That means they deal with protagonists of your age, or above, and issues that people of your age might face. Texts above the age rating of Year 12 (M, 15+, R15 etc…) need to be approved by your teacher, and might be in consultation with caregivers.
STEPS TO WRITING YOUR DRAFTS
STAGE ONE: PLANNING
Your teacher can give detailed feedback on your first two reading logs, and then minimal feedback on #3 and 4. With the last two you are on your own.
The standard requires you show you are able to independently respond to texts.
You will be given a grade for each reading log, and then your overall grade will be somewhat of an average of these. For example, to Achieve this assessment you will need to write 6 responses, with at least 4 at an Achieved level. For Merit, the same applies, however if reading response #1-4 were Merits, but low, and your remaining two were Achieved, then you might be given an Achieved overall, as the overall indication of your personal responses would be at an Achieved level.
