Analyse significant connections across texts involves recognising and interpreting connections across texts.
Analyse significant connections convincingly across texts involves developing reasoned and clear interpretations of connections across texts.
Analyse significant connections perceptively across texts involves developing insightful and/or original interpretations of connections across texts.
Significant connections are connections of importance and consequence and may relate to:
purposes and audiences
ideas
language features
structures
Supported by evidence refers to the use of specific and relevant details from the text to support analysis.
At least four texts (written, oral and/or visual; short and/or extended) must be included. The texts selected for study may be any combination of written, visual and/or oral. At least one text must be student selected.
You will be assessed on how perceptive your critical responses to the significant connections are.
THE OVERALL PROCESS
What do you need to do to meet this standard?
Select, then read/ view/ study four texts. Overall, texts should be at Level 7* of the curriculum.
In your final report, you could discuss more than four texts, but you would need to be sure that you are analysing four in depth. This means you should think deeply and critically about the texts you choose.
The texts may be written, visual or oral, short or extended, or any combination of these forms.
Identify at least one connection, two for M / E, which is shared by these texts. Analyse this common feature in and across the texts. Not all texts need to connect in all of the ways. You should identify different angles / facets of your main connection through the texts.
Interpret, analyse and present your findings, backing up your analysis with evidence. To achieve, your published piece should be at least 800 words.
*Each of your texts must be at Level 7 of the curriculum. That means they deal with protagonists of your age, or above, and issues that people of your age might face. Texts above the age rating of Year 12 (M, 15+, R15 etc…) need to be approved by your teacher, and might be in consultation with caregivers.
You will be assessed on how perceptive your critical responses to the significant connections are.
There are various planning and graphic organisers available for you to use to help you arrange your ideas and thoughts. It is recommended that you follow the recommended checklist and draft dates set by your teacher in order to complete the work in time.
It is also recommended that you share your ideas early on with your teacher to ensure the texts and ideas you identify are at an appropriate level.
