Frequently Asked Questions
Hagg Farm is a dedicated Outdoor Centre located in the heart of the Peak District National Park. It is nestled between Ladybower and Derwent Reservoir surrounded by a rugged landscape. It is approximately 1.5 hours away from Nottingham by car.
The trip runs at the end of February, so lots of warm layers and a torch are essential! Hagg Farm will provide walking boots and waterproofs for pupils to use during their stay (pupils can use their own if they wish - they will need to be checked by staff that they are suitable). The full kit list is linked below:
Pupils will need to arrive in school at 8:30am and head the New Block/Gym to be registered. The coach will depart at 9:15am.
We usually arrive back at AWS around 12:30pm on Day 4. (Pupils arriving back on the Wednesday will be able to head straight home).
Pupils are allowed to bring a mobile phone, however this must be handed in to their Group Leader when they arrive at Hagg Farm. They will have their phone back for around an hour each night (after the evening activities) to send a message home if they wish.
This is to prevent phones being lost/damaged on activities and more importantly to allow pupils to fully connect with nature and engage with each other.
Pupils will complete a range of problem solving activities to develop their communication skills. The main activities will include climbing, hiking, caving, orienteering and bushcraft, with night time activities each evening. An overview of the activity programme can be found linked below:
Pupils will be in activity groups of around 12. These will be a mix of friendship groups to promote team building skills and will be decided with the Progress Leader in advance of the trip.
Each group will have a member of staff as their Team Leader to help support and encourage them during activities.
We want to challenge pupils to push themselves outside of their comfort zone but they will never be forced to do an activity if they are anxious.
They will need to stay with their activity group to help encourage and support their friends!
Pupils will need to bring a packed lunch for Day 1. All other meals are provided by the centre, including a packed lunch to take home on Day 4.
Please ensure you complete any dietary requirements on the consent form when this is sent out.
We ask that pupils do not bring lots of sweets etc. - these have been known to attract the local squirrels into the centre!
Pupils will sleep in cosy dorm rooms of between 4-8 people. They will be responsible for making their own beds and keeping the rooms tidy during their trip.
Dorm groups will be organised in the run up to the trip to ensure pupils are sharing with a couple of friends. However, they may also be sharing with pupils they are less familiar with, this is all part of getting to know people on the trip!
