The purpose of individual counseling sessions is to help students explore their concerns, make appropriate plans of action, and be successful in following through with their plans.
Students can be referred to the school counselor by students, staff or parents.
Students can also request consultation with the school counselor by completing a <Need to Talk Slip>. This link can be accessed on this website or on <Clever> under "Zephyr Beez Resources."

The Whitehall-Coplay School District is continuing a partnership with the School-Based Counseling Program at <Valley Youth House> (VYH) to implement the Bounce Back and CBITS Program. VYH provides free-of-cost small group counseling with a focus on coping skills for students who have experienced a significant life event (i.e. grief/loss, family changes, illness, moving, etc.) Groups meet during the school day for 10 sessions, with two individual sessions. Bounce Back is offered to our 4th grade students, and CBITS (Cognitive-Behavioral Interventions for Trauma in Schools) is offered to our 5th grade students. Please contact Mrs. Rabe for more information.
Youth Education Programming - Group opportunities 2-3 times a year. Groups focus on a variety of skills, including coping and social skills. Groups meet during the school day for 6-8 sessions.
Second Step - <Second Step> is a curriculum based social emotional learning program. All students engage in Second Step classroom lessons bi-weekly in their classrooms. These lessons are provided by a facilitator from Valley Youth House.
Lehigh Valley Health Network partners with the Whitehall-Coplay School District to provide insurance-based individualized counseling with a school-based therapist from LVHN. Sessions take place once a week during the school day. Referrals are made through the <Student Assistance Program>.
High school students can meet with their elementary "Littles" during the school day. The "Bigs" can help students with academics in the classroom setting for a portion of their visit. In their remaining time, student matches are also able to play board games, color, and interact with together in the Library. The coordinator from <Big Brother Big Sisters of the Lehigh Valley> identifies high school "Bigs" to match the needs of the elementary student. Parents and guardians can contact the counseling office to request an application.
School-Wide Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (SWPBIS) is a framework with a focus on prevention and intervention to assist in: increasing compliant and positive behaviors, increasing safety and comfort, and increasing positive school climate and culture. The overall goal of <SWPBIS> is to increase academic performance. The framework seeks to remove the assumption that all students understand how to behave properly and instead, emphasize teaching, modeling and reinforcing positive behavior.
