SWPBIS Overview

What is SWPBIS?

SWPBIS stands for School-Wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. It is a framework with a focus on prevention and intervention to assist in: increasing compliant and positive behaviors, increasing safety and comfort, and increasing positive school climate and culture. The overall goal of SWPBIS is to increase academic performance. The framework seeks to remove the assumption that all students understand how to behave properly and instead, emphasize teaching, modeling and reinforcing positive behavior.

Teaching Behaviors:

During the first two weeks of school, instructional videos and class discussions occur at designated times of the day. The discussions focus on teaching expected behaviors in various settings throughout the school. Signs and behavioral expectation posters are placed at strategic locations throughout the building to serve as reminders and teaching tools. These expectations will be revisited throughout the year, as deemed necessary by our staff.

Acknowledgement System:

Our SWPBIS framework recognizes students who exemplify the characteristics of our Zephyr BEEZ. These traits include the expectation that all students Be safe, Encourage others, Excel in all they do, and have Zephyr PRIDE. Students who demonstrate these traits may receive a BEEZ Buck by a staff member. Students will then have the opportunity to trade in their BEEZ Bucks for prizes during the week. Periodically throughout the year, a select number of Zephyr BEEZ will be selected for reward activities.
