Assistant Professor of Anthropology
Dr. Bastian is an Anthropologist whose field research explores the impacts of economic reforms on everyday life and inequalities and social movements around birth, breastfeeding, LBGTQ+ rights and gender violence in Cuba’s emerging virtual public sphere.
She is the author of Everyday Adjustments in Havana: Economic Reforms, Mobility and Emerging Inequalities (2018) which examines the impacts of economic reforms on everyday life and inequalities in Socialist Cuba. From 2015-2021 she taught at the University of Havana and worked for the Consortium for Advanced Studies Abroad at the Casa de las Américas in Havana.
She enjoys facilitating collaborative project-based learning for undergraduate students and supporting students in exploring the relevance of anthropological theory and methods to their lives and social justice struggles.
She hopes that other professors will download the game and play it with their students and contribute by adding new theorists and theories to the game.
