Biotechnology

Welcome to Biotechnology! Students will explore molecular biology and genetics as they relate to biotechnology. We will use modern molecular tools to explore the biological basis of disease, diagnosis and treatment. Use of biotechnology in agriculture and DNA Barcoding will also be explored.

I rely heavily on Google Classroom and Remind to communicate with students and parents. All homework and assignments will be posted on Google Classroom. Please follow the steps below to make sure you are ready to go.

Course Description: Biotechnology offers students an introductory biotechnology curriculum with emphasis on applications in the medical field. Students will explore the causes and treatments of human disorders and diseases using modern genetic and molecular methods including targeted immunotherapy, pharmacogenomics, and gene therapy. This course will deepen a student's understanding of genetics and molecular biology. Students will discuss bioethics and current topics in medical research, and will be engaged in laboratory work where they will perform experiments using modern molecular methods (including DNA extractions, PCR and DNA Sequencing)

A full year course with the following prerequisite requirements: Living Environment and Regents Chemistry
