School counselors provide counseling sessions in individual or small-group settings which:
help students overcome issues impeding achievement, future success or well-being
help students identify problems, causes, alternatives and possible consequences so they can make decisions and take appropriate action
are planned and goal-focused and are short-termed in nature
Group services offered to students and families are based on individual student, school, and community needs which are assessed through survey data, a referral process, or other relevant data. School counselors prioritize group offerings based on analysis of school data.
These referrals would be considered response services designed to meet students’ immediate needs and concerns. Responsive services may include and result in counseling in individual or small-group settings.
Parents, teachers, students and administration can refer students to the school counselor for both academic and social/emotional purposes or concern
At WGHS, our students use Google Classroom to manage assignments and course materials. Please take a moment to watch the attached video to better understand how you can support your student.
It is important to sit down with your student and review what is happening in each of their classes. This is a great opportunity to help them organize upcoming and missing work, clarify expectations, and prioritize tasks.
These check-ins are also a valuable way to connect with your student and learn more about what they are currently working on. Your involvement and support make a meaningful difference.
Thank you for partnering with us to support student success.
WGHS uses ALMA as our student information system. This is where we track student schedules, attendance, and academic progress.
Please take some time to familiarize yourself with the ALMA Parent Portal. It is an important tool for understanding which courses your student is enrolled in and how they are progressing on their path toward graduation.
Regularly checking ALMA can help you stay informed and better support your student throughout the school year. Thank you for partnering with us to help your student succeed.
