Back to Back: Change unknown game
These Learning Videos will help your child to understand the knowledge and strategy skills at this stage :
What does counting using imaging look like? Instead of needing the physical materials to move around to solve simple addition and subtraction problems of first 5 or less then 10 or less, the child is able to picture the numbers as an image in their mind and either add to subtract to change that image. Starting with small numbers is important, so take your time to build up strong imaging skills. This video helps children to imagine the numbers as dots and then leads on to the skill that will move your child from stage 3 to stage 4 in addition and subtraction strategy- counting on from the largest number and counting back.
Please note : Here are some worksheets to pick and choose from to support the skills at Stage 1 & 2. If you don't have a printer, you can just ask your child to work on paper. The thinking and learning is the important part, not the end product! These worksheets are not compulsory, nor do they need to be handed in to teachers upon return to school. They are just here to support you should you want them.
