At this stage your child is learning to accurately count all the objects in a set first up to 5 then 10 and then up to 20. Giving them sets of items like counters, small toys, coins etc is great practise. When they are are accurate to 5 and 10 then introduce adding two groups together and counting all objects to find the answer.
You could use this tutorial to help your child understand how to count all the objects in a simple addition sentence to find the answer.

Draw and cut around your hands and find all the ways to use the fingers to make friends of 10 ( or 5 if that is what you need)
Number Parking Lot
Just take a piece of paper, draw out parking spaces with numbers to 10 or to 20 and have a go at it! Adults say a number, kids choose a car and drive it into that parking spot. You can even do it with addition to 10 - just drive your car into the space with the answer!
Nature Numbers Counting Book or display
Number Hunt
Where can you find numbers around your house? You can either photograph them or make a list . What is the largest number you found? What was the smallest number you found? What number did you find the most of? Maybe you could make and hide numbers 1-20 around the house and your family can try to find them and put them in order with your help!
Please note : Here are some worksheets to pick and choose from to support the skills at Stage 1 & 2. If you don't have a printer, you can just ask your child to work on paper. The thinking and learning is the important part, not the end product! These worksheets are not compulsory, nor do they need to be handed into teachers upon return to school. They are just here to support you should you want them
