We examine the Holocaust, the systematic killing of millions of European Jews, along with other minorities, under Hitler's rule. Hitler used the anti-Semitic views already prevalent in post war Europe to motivate the ousting of Jews from Germany. Jewish people lost their rights and citizenship in Germany, and were sent to concentration and death camps where Hitler planned to exterminate the Jewish race from Europe. The Holocaust is a powerful reminder of how stereotyping and prejudice can be used as a basis to strip a group of people of their human rights, and even extend to genocide. This topic allows learners to engage in dialogue about South African examples of prejudice, both past and present.
