In this topic we explore both the positives and negatives of Nationalism. We investigate where Nationalism came from and how, as European empires expanded and colonized other areas of the world, Nationalist sentiment began to brew in opposition to the colonialist's control. Aiming to broaden our understanding, we examine case studies of African Nationalism, Afrikaner Nationalism, situations in the Middle East as well as Ghana.

Sol Plaatjie and Rev. John Dube were among the founding members of the South African Native National Congress. This was an african nationalist group that would later be known as the ANC.
The Afrikaner Broederbond was a secretive, exclusively male afrikaner group that aimed to advance the interests of the afrikaans nation. Notable members included infamous apartheid enforcers like B.J. Vorster, H.F. Verwoed and Pik Botha.
