Instruction
The following components are included in the instruction portion of HL Workshops:
HL definitions (personal and organizational) according to the CDC
Demonstrations of valid consumer health information sources: MedlinePlus, drugs.com, MyPlate
Action items / suggestions to start the expansion of HL levels
Engagement
The following engagement activities occur during HL workshops:
Breakout (virtual) or paired sharing (in-person) sessions prompt participants to view and determine the validity of various health information videos (via Tik Tok, YouTube, Instagram)
Discussions following break out or paired sessions are intended to uncover best practices on what to look for, what questions to ask, what hesitations are necessary when viewing these messages online
Anonymous polling via Poll Everywhere are placed throughout the session for conversation prompts
Assessment
The IRB for this research includes assessment opportunities through pre - post workshop surveys.
Surveys consist of 6 questions, mainly Likert style, to capture likelihood or occurrence-based information. The goal is to observe any behavior or attitude changes relative to information seeking pre to post workshop sessions. The survey may be accessed HERE.
