We support women to become more independent, empowering them to make their own decisions, find new hobbies and get involved in their local community.
It’s not always easy to ask for help but we would encourage you to not suffer in silence as talking to someone about your problems and how you feel can really help.
We will work with you to understand your situation and can help you think things through so you get the support you need.
We can help you to find your own voice, to express yourself and think about what’s happened.
"The support you’ve offered has given me my life back. I was lost and alone, but having someone to listen and understand made all the difference. Thank you for restoring my hope." — Service User
Sue is a very genuine person. I get overly excited when she’s coming to see me and trust her to be very open with me. I have spoken to her about all sorts of things that have been bothering me. She listens patiently, gives me her perspective and we talk through ideas about how to handle situations differently.”- Service User
"I was in a dark place, but my befriender helped me see the light. I feel proud of how far I’ve come, and I couldn’t have done it without their kindness and encouragement." — Service User
‘‘I’ve learnt so much from my clients, not just about their culture and their country, but it has been a humbling experience. They have been through so much, and with such dignity. I feel we have as much to learn from them as they do from us.’ - Volunteer Befriender
Many of our clients struggle with feelings of loneliness and social isolation, they often don't feel like they have the ability to go out, meet with their friends and enjoy life. We here at WFRC, we are dedicated to making our clients feel empowered to live as freely as possible after the loss of their spouse.
Our wellbeing centres provide our clients with real face to face creativity and a chance to socialise with support from trained volunteers and staff. Our wellbeing centres help us set up our activity days for laughing, having fun and making new friends.
Our befriending services support women to improve their mental health and wellbeing. Befriending involves being matched with one of our highly-trained and supervised volunteers, who offer emotional and social support on a weekly basis.
Whether you want to speak to someone every week, or just when the need strikes. We are here to help with home visits and telephone befriending.
Visit times will be controlled between you and your befriender to ensure you find a time that is convenient for you both.
