“Debate is the most valuable activity I’ve ever participated in. You learn to collect, process, and synthesize information extremely quickly to make good arguments and succinctly deconstruct bad ones. Its transferable skills in research, public speaking, and argumentation will take you far and help you to have better conversations on topics that matter.” - Alex Plum (Whitefish Bay High School Class of 2017, UW-Madison)
“First, debate trains you to think analytically under pressure. That skill is helpful in so many contexts—in school, future critical conversations. But more importantly, debate helped me develop a process for making decisions; the process of choosing which arguments to make forced me to consider what my values were, values which inform most decisions I make now. For me, it became about way more than just soaking up information, or winning; I learned what I cared about, and then got the chance to advocate for it in rounds.” - Marcus Ellinas (Whitefish Bay High School Class of 2019, University of Chicago)
