Supplies Needed

• 3 raw eggs

• vinegar

• corn syrup

• distilled water

The Procedure

Part 1

1. Put eggs in a large bowl

2. Pour enough vinegar into the bowl to cover the eggs COMPLETELY

3. Let them sit for 2 days

4. Complete the pre-lab by clicking on the button below

Part 2

1. CAREFULLY take eggs out of the bowl. The vinegar has softened the shell. If there is any white left on the egg, GENTLY rub it off. You only need 2 eggs for the experiment so if you break one, don't worry!

2. Get two large containers

3. CAREFULLY place an egg in each one

4. Fill container #1 with distilled water until it covers the egg

5. Fill container #2 with corn syrup until it covers the egg

6. Let sit for 24 hours

7. Make your hypothesis

   • Will an egg without a shell gain or lose mass when placed in a container of distilled water?

   • Will an egg without a shell gain or lose mass when placed in a container of corn syrup?

Part 3

1. CAREFULLY take each egg out of its container. The eggs are very breakable at this point in the experiment.

2. Make observations about your eggs and answer questions about them by clicking on the button below.
