This lab is EGG-celent! In this lab you will use eggs to investigate osmosis. Be careful not to break the eggs!
3 raw eggs
vinegar
corn syrup
distilled water
Part 1
Put eggs in a large bowl
Pour enough vinegar into the bowl to cover the eggs COMPLETELY
Let them sit for 2 days

Part 2
CAREFULLY take eggs out of the bowl. The vinegar has softened the shell. If there is any white left on the egg, GENTLY rub it off. You only need 2 eggs for the experiment so if you break one, don't worry!
Get two large containers
CAREFULLY place an egg in each one
Fill container #1 with distilled water until it covers the egg
Fill container #2 with corn syrup until it covers the egg
Let sit for 24 hours
Make your hypothesis
Will an egg without a shell gain or lose mass when placed in a container of distilled water?
Will an egg without a shell gain or lose mass when placed in a container of corn syrup?
Click on the button below to make a hypothesis for each question above. Remember to use the If....then.... format!
Part 3
CAREFULLY take each egg out of its container. The eggs are very breakable at this point in the experiment.
