2025 Cross Country info:
Summer runs will start on Monday, June 23, with the boys at 7:30am and the girls at 8:00am, Monday-Friday at the track. Runs are optional and open to everybody of all ages, including adults.
Official practices start on Monday, August 18, at 8:00am.
What you'll need: running shoes with less than 300 miles on them, and a water bottle. If you need new shoes, go to Marathon Sports in Glastonbury or to Fleet Feet in West Hartford to get properly fitted - different foot strike patterns, pronation vs supination vs neutral will all impact what shoe is best and they have trained staff on hand to find you the right shoe.
The boys suggested workouts will be posted below on a weekly basis. Rookies will most likely be in the low mileage group, with veterans in the mid or high mileage groups. Exceptions will be made based on experience, conditioning, and if you're a track athlete, which event(s) you compete in. Low mileage will have a progression to approx 30 miles/week, mid to 30-35 miles/week, and high 40-45 miles/week.
It is recommended that you create a profile on Strava to create a training log; please follow Coach Jeff Sanborn if you do so your progress can be properly evaluated and managed. Strava is free, and while a smart watch is helpful, it's not a requirement, as workouts can be logged manually or you can be tagged by your teammates. You don't need an expensive smart watch as the budget watches include everything you will need, but we recommend you check Strava's list of compatible watches before purchasing a new one.
