The West Warwick Preschool Program is dedicated to creating a nurturing and inclusive environment for children from diverse family backgrounds, varying socioeconomic levels, and rich cultural heritage. We aim to provide a safe and stimulating space that embraces and celebrates these differences, ensuring every child in West Warwick receives the support they need to thrive.

The West Warwick Public Schools Preschools follow the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) requirements. These requirements state the IDEA's strong preference for educating students with disabilities in regular classes with appropriate aids and support. Under section 612(a)(5) of the IDEA, to the maximum extent appropriate, children with disabilities, including children in public or private institutions or other care facilities, must be educated with children who are not disabled. Further, special classes, separate classes, separate schooling, or other removal of children with disabilities from the regular educational environment may occur only when the nature or severity of the disability of the child is such that education in regular classes with the use of supplementary aids and services cannot be achieved satisfactorily.
The West Warwick public schools offer a continuum of services for preschool students identified as having a disability.
Full day (5 days per week, 5 hours per day) self-contained preschool programs with one full-time teacher and teacher assistant, and one part-time teacher assistant.
Half day (4 days per week Tues-Friday, 2 hours and 30 minutes per day)
This program is for students with and without Individualized education plans. If you would like to enroll your child in one of these preschool classrooms please contact Sara Gaulin at sgaulin@westwarwickpublicschools.com for further information.
Self-Contained Preschool Programs: These programs have one full-time teacher and 2 full-time teacher assistants.
Individualized therapies: (speech/language & communication, physical therapy, occupational therapy for fine motor development, sensory integration, and vision therapy).
Itinerant Model
Itinerant Early Childhood Special Education (IECSE) is a research-based service delivery model for providing special education services to young children with disabilities within general early childhood environments.
The IECSE model allows young children with disabilities to actively participate in the general education curriculum by embedding the necessary supports, services, and interventions. Participating early childhood programs in the community are partnered with West Warwick public schools to implement this model successfully.
Maisie Quinn School is currently accepting enrollment for community peers for the upcoming 2024/25 school year. If your child will be 3 years old by September 1, 2024, and you are interested in enrolling them in our program, please contact Maisie Quinn School at 401-822-8456 for further details. We look forward to welcoming new families into our community!
