Math Instruction
Illustrative Math, or IM, is a product used K-5 throughout the district. Many teachers throughout the district piloted the program with district support during the 23-24 year. This year is the full rollout.
Paper-based materials for students
Warm up, activity, synthesis, cool-down
Common language used throughout (e.g. “notice and wonder”)
Cooperative and communication skills are embedded (e.g. turn to your partner and discuss)
Language Arts Instruction
CKLA stands for Core Knowledge Language Arts, which is the PK-5 arm of the Amplify product line
A curriculum built on the science of reading, which represents a shift in literacy education that has been occurring over the past several years
Digital and paper access
Foundational skills address phonological and phonemic awareness
Writing practice handles handwriting, spelling, and composition
Literacy Screeners
Literacy Screener: DIBELS DIBELS ® (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) is a set of procedures and measures for assessing the acquisition of literacy skills. They are designed to be short (one minute) fluency measures that can be used to regularly detect risk and monitor the development of early literacy and early reading skills in kindergarten through eighth grade.
Diagnostic Assessment: PSI The PSI helps teachers understand each child's needs and provides targeted instruction to close the gap for struggling readers. Identifies skill mastery in Basic Phonics, Advanced Phonics, and Multisyllable Words, as well as Sight Words
Walk to Intervention
Walk to Intervention is a program that makes use of data from DIBELS and the PSI to help teachers form groups of students to work on isolated skills to improve reading.
Students are re-grouped for one period a day OUTSIDE their classroom arrangement with other students who are working on the same skill(s)
