6th Grade

Two Semesters
Prerequisites: Successful completion of 5th grade ELA coursework
English 6 students will be exposed to a variety of skill building experiences, have opportunities to develop creativity, and build an appreciation for literature. Students will be developing skills in recognizing and understanding literary elements, as well as continuing to develop reading skills that will aid in comprehending both fiction, and nonfiction texts. Writing will focus on the basics of writing a strong and descriptive sentence, and then quickly progress to writing four to five paragraph essays.
7th Grade
Required
Two Semesters
Prerequisites: Successful completion of 6th grade ELA coursework
The goal of this course is to develop the skills needed to read, think about, and respond to both narrative and informational texts. Students will focus on learning and identifying important textual elements such as theme, author’s purpose, and plot, and they will use these elements to develop a better understanding of the text. Students will have the opportunity to read a variety of texts and practice responding to those readings in personal writing, group discussion, and formal writing.
8th Grade
