6th grade
One Semester
This course has no prerequisites. This semester course is designed to help give you a foundation in the Google Suite tools and applications as well as an opportunity to improve keyboarding skills. Students will also learn and discuss topics including internet safety, digital literacy, coding and computer basics.
6th, 7th or 8th grade

Computer Science and App Creation is an introductory class where you will learn the basics of coding and program design! After learning the fundamentals using a block-based version of JavaScript, you'll explore cool coding applications in Music, Art, and Science. Computer Science is everywhere, and no matter what your interests are there is a connection somewhere to programming. This class will help you decide if you want to pursue more computer science classes when you get to high school.

The Health curriculum includes units on social emotional learning, nutrition, drug and alcohol prevention education, tobacco and smoking prevention education, as well as reproductive health and CPR.

During the course of our WOVA Middle School music course, we will be exploring the musical concepts of rhythm, melody, harmony, notation, and composition.

The purpose of these courses is to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and values they need to become healthy and physically active for a lifetime. These courses address both health and skill related components of fitness which are critical for students’ success.

Please note that when considering the next level course in the sequence, it is HIGHLY recommended that a student have obtained a C- or BETTER in the previous level.
Students will communicate about familiar topics using basic vocabulary and language structure. Students will use both spoken and written communication in a variety of activities. They will participate in both group and paired language activities. Not only will students focus on speaking and writing the language but they will also develop successful listening, comprehension of basic language patterns and familiar topics. Students will begin to examine the role of language learning in the career pathways and will begin to explore the role of language learning as they take their place in a society that is globally interconnected.
8th Grade

Students will expand their spoken and written communication to include a broader variety of topics, while the topics remain familiar and “everyday”. Students will also expand their successful listening comprehension to include a wider variety of topics. Students will become more adept at reading in the language and will expand the structures that they are able to recognize, understand and use. Students will demonstrate their skills in a variety of activities, including group and paired activities. Students will clarify the various roles that language learning plays in the career pathways, as well as examining cultural issues more carefully.

A prerequisite to this course is the completion of a Computers Course or equivalent experience .This hands on semester-long course introduces students to creating videos by learning how to plan projects, use a camera and edit the footage. Projects are published on our school news show where students pick either being on camera or working behind the scenes.
