"Our brain is very small," Jonathon Cecere a student at the Weston Middle School, has stated. Even though our brain is small it does not mean that it does not use that much energy. It uses about 20% of all of our energy. The brain is one of the most important parts of our body, if not the most important. The brain controls nerveways and processes everything we see, touch, smell, hear and taste.
The brain uses the sugar in our food and it turns it into glucose for our brain to use for energy, according to Christopher Brown, a science teacher at the Weston middle school. That is why all the teachers encourage you to have a big breakfast and give you candy sometimes during a test. Breakfast has sugar and if it is balanced like eggs, it will be great for a test. But, if it is something like Lucky Charms or a sugary cereal, it won’t do you good because it doesn’t have any protein or fats, just sugar. The candy will turn the sugar into glucose and your brain will thrive for a little bit while you take the test, but after you will just be really tired and not do well on the test.
The best foods to eat before a test or a long studying session is foods rich in antioxidants, such as broccoli, spinach, carrots and potatoes are all high in antioxidants, and so are artichokes, cabbage, asparagus, avocados, beetroot, radish, lettuce, sweet potatoes, squash, pumpkin, collard greens and kale. Grains such as brown rice, buckwheat and barley. These grains improve your blood circulation in your brain, therefore improving your memory.
