TPE 6.5: Demonstrate professionalism in all aspects of student learning and management. Model ethical conduct.
On a daily basis, teachers interact with dozens of students, meaning they hold enormous potential to instill positive behaviors and values. Beyond showing my students that English can be a joyful, lifelong pursuit, I endeavor to model punctuality, attentive listening, respectful communication, a strong work ethic, and resilience in the face of challenges.
Reflect on one’s teaching to improve student learning
Over the course of my student teaching experience, I engaged in regular reflection at a daily, weekly, and semester-long level. This habit is invaluable as it fosters continuous professional development. Above, I demonstrate an ability to analyze successes and failures from the week, consider an individual student's learning needs, and adapt my teaching to create more engaging learning experiences.
Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and families to support student learning
In the these Back to School Night slides, I use both English and Spanish. I incorporate this technique into my introductions because it creates a hospitable environment for the parents of EML students. Rather than alienating non-English speaking parents, this strategy invites a significant population of parents into further involvement and agency over their child’s educational experience. In the presentation, on the syllabus, and elsewhere, I invite students and families to maintain open communication with me, regularly encouraging them to reach out if they have any questions.
“Learn from yesterday, live for today. The important thing is to not stop questioning.” – Albert Einstein.

"It is the teacher who models curiosity, sets expectations, establishes procedures, and invites students to the flavorful (and often messy) table of learning...at the fellowship of this table, learners can comfortably ask questions, explore the menu, sample opinions, and feed their intellects on texts that challenge, inspire, and delight them."
