Why build a Career Techincal Education campus?
While Westminster High School has a robust and very successful Career Technical Education (CTE) program, space on the high school campus is limited. The Ranum campus provides space for new instruction and hands-on learning. In addition, the new campus will provide students with more program choices and opportunities to either leave high school with a high-paying, meaningful job or be better prepared for post-secondary education.
What is the timeline for the Ranum Reimagine campus?
The campus will be built out in phases with the initial work focusing on the renovation of the building to allow for maximum flexibility in determining specific career pathways on the Ranum and Westminster High School campuses. District leaders are visiting other innovation campuses to determine the best use of space and dollars. The campus may open during the 2024 school year, but the current backlog of construction materials and workers could impact the timeline.
Where will the funding come from?
On April 26, the Westminster Public Schools Board of Education approved funding for Phase 1 work on the Ranum campus.
Funds for the project were appropriated as follows:
· $10 million from Certificates of Participation (COP) generated by the 2018 mill levy override.
· $10 million from the general fund.
WPS is actively exploring partnerships with public and private organizations to support the vision of the campus.
What will happen to the WPS Juniors/Futures Program now located at Ranum Middle School?
The athletics program will continue to be housed on the west side of the building. The Ranum campus has amazing indoor and outdoor facilities that will continue to be used by WPS students.
